Drive over 80 Penalties - Insurance Implications

Drinking drivers, or drivers convicted for any Drive over 80 offence are considered “HIGH RISK” drivers.

Drivers who are convicted of a drinking and driving offence will find that their insurance rates will go into “Facility Rating”. Facility Rated insurance means high risk insurance premiums of up to ten thousand (10,000) dollars per years.

As well because any conviction for Drive over 80 is a conviction against the Criminal Code of Canada, as a result most insurance companies will keep the conviction for five years.

If the incident involves a motor vehicle accident insurance companies will refuse to pay for any of the damages to the accused’s motor vehicle.

The insurance company will refuse to pay for the vehicle because the driver has driving the vehicle illegally.
